What is Cyanogen ? Explained

If you are a Android device user then you may come up with the word root, recovery, ROM and others interesting stuff regarding root. Many of the users root their device to install Cyanogen to come up with the new features like customization, privacy, control over every nerve of device, etc that a normal Android Stock OS can’t offer.

But for new Android user or the normal user Cyanogen, root, etc may sounds interesting as well as weird. Today basically we will talk about Cyanogen instead of explaining rooting, recovery, and all that stuffs. So lets move on to the topic.

First of all we need to clear this thing that Cyanogen OS and CyanogenMod are both different. Cyanogen OS  is an Official ROM developed Cyanogen team for the devices officially like if you have heard about OnePlus One, Yureka, Yuphoria devices that they will come up with pre-installed Cyanogen OS that means they are official tied up with Mobile manufacturers to pre-install Cyanogen OS instead of normal Android Stock OS.

Cyanogen OS come up with regular update for official devices which is known for its revolutionary personalization features, intuitive interface, speed, improved battery life, and enhanced security.

Now moving to next, CyanogenMod is a open source community which is of course a part Cyanogen. As we know that Android is an open source OS which allow anyone and everyone to build their own flavor of Android, and CyanogenMod is a best example of it. CyanogenMod is an open source project which allow Developers across the world globally develops CyanogenMod for almost every devices and provide support. A developers can simply download a piece of code ,build and compile CyanogenMod for devices. There are many other Open sources projects running such as SOKP, AICP,AOSP,Resurrection Remix, etc provide even more customization features but Cyanogen name is leading in all of these because of there support and fast response.

The build can be official or unofficial of CyanogenMod i.e. if developers pushes their build to CyanogenMod team and if they approve the build then it will be official supported to provides regular update like weekly, nightly, stable which can be directly downloaded by CyanogenMod website. And if the build is not approved by team then developers will provide the update with their convenient time.

Now we will move towards the versions available :

Basically only in CyanogenMod we get different versions such as Snapshot,Weekly,Nightly,Stable, etc . So we will see a brief of all this to get an idea which version will be suitable.

Nightly : They are those build which are updated and pushed every night with fixing bugs and providing new features. Nightly are build automatically with human interaction, hence they are experimental and it is not recommended to use as daily driver because if you are normal user then bugs may trouble you. Although many users uses nightly as daily driver to experience new features.

Weekly : These build are pushed on weekly basis, and these are quiet stable then Nightly .

Snapshot : Snapshot are the most stable build which is tested thoroughly to make sure everything working fine with best battery backup, stability, performance, etc.

Stable : Stable are those build which provides all the stable features, performance which can be flashed once and can be used as long as we want.
